There was an article in the Trib a few days ago. When Bob Dole presidential candidate, called the tanker T. Boone Pickens to head his campaign in Texas. In exchange for Pickens wanted write energy policy presented Dole. Dole responded, "There, in the field is a sleeping dog. The politicians do not lack sleep no dogs. Bill Clinton did not give a damn about energy and not me. We are not a gooona we found a sleeping dog and so energy will not be a problem in this campaign. But in a case of us faced with the dog, and if one of us has a problem, you'll be the guy who advised me "(Chicago Tribune, 7/14/08).
And he hit me! That's it! Thus our political system is broken!
Not that Bob Dole and Bill Clinton had not known at least since 1973, "1st OIL CRISIS "or the oil crisis of 1979" 2 "burning liquid pools of oil on the surface of the land was:
1. A economic disaster. The United States and the world economy would thank him for a whim of the petty tyrants who controlled much of the remaining quantities bid World oil.
2. Geopolitical catastrophe. We transfer vast amounts of money and power these tyrants.
3. A national security disaster. Sooner or later, these tyrants and radicals around them is the use of large quantities that serve them money to finance wars against us or our allies.
4. An environmental disaster. Burning large amounts Oil has been emitting large amounts of pollutants in the air we breathe and the destruction of our atmosphere.
5. Unit disaster. These pools of oil has had billions of years to form, and are not infinite. They are in a relatively Short runs out, and our dependence on them end abruptly.
Not that Bob and Bill did not know, but the issue is a sleeping dog. They knew. But no matter! Political agenda is not to solve national and global problems, including problems that later would become disasters. Your program is to be elected. And once elected, only politicians seeking reelection. And to be elected and reelected been carefully ignoring any Sleeping Dogs, and avoid tripping over them.
Until the problems eventually hit in the face, like the energy problem has finally, and then look for what is not his fault, and how we can come out and be a hero.
Our politicians elected to do the same with other problems. They saw The Mortgage industry run amok for years, borrowing money he wanted to take with "adjustable-rate Mortgages" to make affordable loans to people who could not afford them. And when the mortgages adjusted, and duplicate payments required or even tripled, millions of people lost their homes, and have precipitated a global banking crisis and global economic catastrophe.
And what other Sleeping Dogs to avoid? What problems are we going to our children, our grandchildren and generations to come?
We crowded into their world. We are destroying the original forest and conduct other species to extinction. We are promoting dogma over observation, reason and science, to promote intolerance of those that are different from us, and deliberately stifle medical research is very promising. We have 300 million guns, we have a cent of our adult population in prisons, and our society more violent in any developed country. We continue to implement policies that have failed on drugs, immigration and Middle East. We continue to resolve disputes with other countries with bombs and destruction, trade in our liberty for a little perceived safety, hold indefinitely without evidence of misconduct, and we hope that how we torture people! . We created a country that does not manufacture anything, provides an enormous wealth for some and poverty for others, makes same basic health care inaccessible to millions, and we are building a mountain of debt for the next generation to pay!
We We can do better.
Or are we willing to continue to leave things?
